Lebanon's Independence

Lebanon received it’s independence on November 22, 1943, the withdraw of the United Kingdom and France forces led to “economic and political stability" (A) Lebanon became the calmest center of the Middle East and still is, it's known as the “Switzerland,” of the Middle East. Even in the Arab Israeli War of 1948 Lebanon took no part in the war. (A)

Because of the conflict in the Middle East between the armed forces of Palestinian guerillas (right picture) Lebanon’s economy was interrupted. (A) Lebanon absolutely did not want a civil war instead the government signed the Cairo Accord with the Palestinian Liberation Organization. (A) Lebanon became a state within a state. War broke out between the Muslims and Christians because parts of Lebanon were able to send raids to Israel. (D) A huge number of people passed from this war. In addition the war ruined the economy and weakened the government. The Palestinian Liberation Organization ruled Lebanon,  the Muslim leftists, Syrian forces and the Sa'ah Haddad. (A) In May of 1983 Lebanon, Israel and the United States signed an agreement; Lebanon and Israel agreed to end the state war so Israel withdrew its forces and both Lebanon and Israel agreed to establish a security zone in Southern Lebanon.
